Managing Small Projects

This week I was in charge of leading a group presentation for Managing Small Projects. It is refreshing to work with a group so well and for everyone to be on the same page for a change. There was not one person who didn't show up or come unprepared, which I was thankful for. It made me really appreciate that the people in this class have as large a passion for film and academic success as I do. In leading this group, I came to the conclusion that I am capable of handling a lot of responsibility at once and remaining calm when things are stressful. I think that Visions, as a class, will teach me how to roll with the punches and adapt to difficult situations in a more professional way.

In the presentation I discussed what was necessary for kicking off a small project. One must know what their project scope will encompass and what will not be included in their project. The individual would need to understand the potential risks involved with starting a small project as well as how to prepare for them if these problems were to happen in real life. It was emphasized that one must find the right balance between work and managing their project also. In order to reach success, a project must have effective communication with team members and group meetings should use time together efficiently. This is a good way to avoid improper assumptions that may arise later down the road of the project. This is also an effective way to make sure everyone is staying on top of their individual tasks while still participating and contributing to the group.

  1. It took me about 4 hours to watch the tutorials and type up my section of the powerpoint on Friday, September 6th (12pm-4pm). On Sunday, September 8th I spent about 2 hours putting together everyone's section into a powerpoint (8:30pm-10:30pm).
